Miller Residence
Gildford, MT

The design of this house was inspired by the many vernacular buildings that dot the Hi-Line of Northern Montana.  The tall, slender forms and metal siding represent grain elevators that are a vital part of this wheat producing area.  As are most rural building their placement on the site along with their form are due to the external elements and geography of the landscape.  In order to deal with the ever present North winds, the house is designed in a ‘U’ shape.  The kitchen is centrally located with a glass garage door which opens onto the protected courtyard.  This house was constructed with SIPS (Structurally Insulated Panel System) walls, which provide a high insulating value (R-25) along w/ additional structural support.  In addition, it is heated with Geo-thermal heat.
