The Walker Residence was part addition, part renovation. The existing residence, a small farm house built by the Walker family over 100 years ago, was in need of a new foundation and much more space. To start the house was moved off its existing stone rubble foundation, stripped of its siding and roofing and gutted completely. A new foundation was designed to include a partial basement for the children’s rooms. The additions to the house include a custom kitchen, dining room and a spacious living room.
The interiors were updated in a modern version of the farm house style. The existing house was segmented and broken up by individual rooms; we opened up the interior to be spacious and usable. The kitchen incorporates granite countertops over antiqued cabinets in white with a contrasting black island. In the master bath the older style antiqued cabinets and claw-foot tub blend with a modern granite tiled shower. We had a bit of fun with the kid’s bath by incorporating brightly colored walls and tile accents with clean white cabinets and fixtures.
